GLOPID-R

Regional hub

GloPID-R Africa Hub

The Africa Hub, hosted by the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC), was officially launched on August 22, 2023. This hub is currently mapping funding agencies on the African continent and conducting surveys to collect data on specific research funding activities.

Objectives of the Africa Hub

  • Promote collaboration and coordination among funders based on common goals
  • Identify priority research areas on the continent and ways of addressing them
  • Strengthen research networks and help address inequity in research funding across the region
  • Assess Africa’s response to national and regional epidemics
  • Evaluate the state of pandemic preparedness on the continent
  • Strengthen early warning systems and surveillance systems
  • Lower identified barriers from research to policy to practice on the continent

GloPID-R received an EDCTP (European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership) grant funded by the UK Department of Health and Social Care to begin establishing the Africa Hub in 2022.
