GloPID-R complementarity with WHO R&D Blueprint highlighted in The Lancet
A correspondence signed by GloPID-R stakeholders Marie-Paule Kieny of WHO, John-Arne Røttingen of the Norwegian Institute of Public Health and Jeremy Farrar of the Wellcome Trust was published in The Lancet on 30th July 2016.
The letter highlights both the timeliness of the creation of the GloPID-R network of research funding organizations in 2013 and its complementarity with the research and development (R&D) Blueprint Initiative of WHO.
The correspondence states the need for a coherent global response to the increasing number of public health emergencies. Within this context, the aim of the WHO R&D Blueprint is to avert full-blown epidemics by making R&D outbreak-ready. GloPID-R shares this overall objective and continues to coordinate its efforts with WHO, which is an observer within GloPID-R.
On behalf of the WHO R&D Blueprint team and the R&D Blueprint Scientific Advisory Group, Drs. Kieny, Røttingen and Farrar state:
“We welcome GloPID-R’s partnership and commitment to improve the sharing of information among funders, align decision making and allow for an expedited approach among many major global funding agencies.”
