WellcomeWellcome advances knowledge of cholera and influenza vaccines at global meetings

Wellcome, through the Vaccine Priority Area, attended the recent Global Taskforce for Cholera Control where Wellcome and Department for International Development’s (DFID) funded researchers presented on their projects.

The projects analyzed aspects of past or ongoing interventions to improve their implementation in the future e.g. the use of oral cholera vaccines (OCV) or water sanitation and hygiene (WaSH) strategies. The projects also developed tools, metrics and other resources to support decisions about controlling cholera.

Wellcome funders also attended the “Technical Consultation on Better Global Tools: Product Research and Innovation for Influenza Prevention, Control and Ireatment” in Geneva in June, hosted by WHO. Researchers participated on a panel discussion on “Opportunities and challenges to Advance Influenza Vaccine R&D and to Strengthen Better Use of Current Vaccines.”

Funding infectious disease preparedness projects and sharing the results with other countries, Wellcome continues to be a global partner in promoting world health.
