Note from the Board
Dear GloPID-R Members,
In December 2024, GloPID-R held its Annual General Assembly at the World Health Organization’s Headquarters in Geneva. This significant gathering brought together GloPID-R members from around the globe, Board members, and the Secretariat to strengthen our collective commitment to pandemic preparedness and research response.
The Assembly yielded two immediate and substantial outcomes: a strategic decision to enhance pandemic preparedness and response through an agreement to cooperate with WHO’s Collaborative Open Research Consortium, and the official launch of GloPID-R’s Coordinated Funding Mechanism: “Global Research Improving Pandemic Preparedness.” Membership also had significant dialogue the development of our new Strategic Plan, which will guide GloPID-R’s activities and priorities in the coming years. This collaborative effort reflects our shared vision for strengthening global research coordination and response capabilities. The Secretariat is continuing to take this effort forward for finalization at the next GA.
Since the Assembly, GloPID-R has continued to expand its influence in pandemic preparedness and research response initiatives. Our contributions to clinical trial coordination through the Pandemic PACT programme and the Funders Living Roadmap were highlighted in the latest International Pandemic Preparedness Secretariat (IPPS) report. GloPID-R also actively participated in the Annual ESSENCE Meeting in Rockville, Maryland, sharing valuable insights on strengthening research capacity in low- and middle-income countries.
In response to ongoing global outbreaks, we recently released a statement reaffirming GloPID-R’s commitment to transparency and trust in outbreak research. This underscores our dedication to fostering open dialogue and information sharing—essential elements for effective and timely outbreak response.
We are proud to recognize the remarkable progress made by our members in infectious disease research and response: strengthening Africa’s vaccine research ecosystem, launching new funding calls for mpox research and vaccine development, and continuing to lead global health innovation across multiple fronts.
The Board extends its sincere gratitude to all members and external stakeholders whose unwavering support enables GloPID-R to advance its vital mission in global health security.
Sincerely,
The GloPID-R Board
