Data Sharing Working Group
A new milestone will be achieved with the Principles on Data Sharing in Public Health Emergencies (PHE) being finalized. These principles along with a recently released Request for Proposals are among the many initiatives going on in data sharing.
In May 2017, the Data Sharing Working Group invited a variety of key stakeholders to provide feedback on the draft Principles for Data Sharing in PHEs. Many from the scientific community responded during the open consultation process and the document was revised based on the feedback. Once the Principles for Data Sharing in PHEs are approved, it will be available on the GloPID-R website.
Open Request for Proposals
The Data Sharing Working Group is seeking proposals to develop in-depth case studies to document and analyze practices related to data sharing in past infectious disease outbreaks to better understand barriers and enablers to data sharing and how data shaped research responses to these outbreaks. The “Request for proposals to develop three retrospective case studies on data sharing in public health emergencies” is now open until February 26, 2018.

New Data Sharing Tool in Development
The Data Sharing Working Group is working with Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, Canada to develop a proof of concept for an innovative data sharing tool which aims to facilitate data discovery in public health emergencies. The prototype will focus on Ebola and clinical research as a starting point in order to map potential questions that would be asked and identify the type of data that would be needed to answer them.
Presentations & Meetings
In October 2017, Katherine Littler, Data Sharing Working Group Chair, presented on ‘Sharing data in infectious disease outbreaks and emergencies’ and ‘Data sharing in public health emergencies – what role for funders?’ at the 10th European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health highlighting some of the Data Sharing Working Group priorities and activities to a wider audience.
