ANRS MIE’s Strategic Projects

Afroscreen Funding

The French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs has pledged €1 million over a two-year period to finance the activities of the AFROSCREEN network. Support will focus on continuing the initial and ongoing training of laboratory staff in a One Health approach, and on expanding the network from human health laboratories to animal health laboratories. The project will be officially launched in October.

ANRS MIE Scientific Facilitation

In response to developments in the mpox situation in the DRC, the ANRS MIE has been undertaking several actions:

  • Publishing a weekly scientific review;
  • Organising the definition of research priorities in collaboration with various French and international experts and research partner associations;
  • Initiating coordination efforts at the European level.

Launch of a new scientific steering group

The ANRS MIE has officially launched a new scientific steering group on viral haemorrhagic feversat the occasion of a two-day symposium on July 2-3rd 2024. https://anrs.fr/en/scientific-research/scientific-animation-groups/viral-haemorrhagic-fevers-coordinated-action/

International Vaccine Institute (IVI)

On June 17, 2024, Dr. Jerome Kim, Director General of the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) and Prof. Yazdan Yazdanpanah, Director of the ANRS MIE, have signed a 5-year memorandum of understanding to strengthen their collaboration in the research and development of vaccines and treatments for emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

ANRS MIE Events

  • ANRS MIE took part in the EDCTP General Assembly on October 7th in Brussels to adopt the work program for the coming year.

The Scientific Days of the ANRS MIE Partner site in Cambodia was held on October 10th and 11th, 2024

 

  • Arbo-France network, placed under ANRS MIE’s aegis, held its annual scientific symposium on October 24-25th in Paris. The symposium focus on the role of research in the fight against emerging arbovirals, with a particular focus on yellow fever and tick-borne viral diseases.
  • A Franco-Brazilian seminar “Enhancing Global Arboviruses Preparedness and Response Through Research Collaboration” will be coorganised by ANRS MIE and Instituto Evandro Chagas, with the support of the French Embassy in Belem, Brazil on 30-31st October
  • The BeReady Partnership coordinated by ANRS MIE and represented by Herve Raoul, will present at a workshop on Research & Innovation on Pandemic Preparedness in the EU and Global Context at the World Health Summit on October 15th in Berlin
  • The Scientific Days of the ANRS MIE Partner site in Brazil will be held on November 4-6th, in Brasilia, in conjunction with the seminar on Franco-Brazilian scientific and technical cooperation
