2018 General Assembly
GloPID-R is pleased to announce that the next General Assembly is planned for February 27-28, 2018 in Brussels, Belgium. This two-day meeting provides a unique platform for the world’s major research funding organizations to present on the latest in infectious disease preparedness and response.
Day 1: GloPID-R & JPIAMR Joint Meeting
The first day will be a joint meeting with the Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance (JPIAMR). GloPID-R and JPIAMR will discuss common challenges and possible areas of collaboration between the combat against antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and the mobilization against infectious disease outbreaks.
Line Matthiessen, GloPID-R Chair, and Carlos Segovia, Chair of JPIAMR Management Board, will kick-start the meeting with their opening remarks, and Herman Goossens, University of Antwerp, will give a keynote address on the shared challenges between AMR and emerging infectious diseases.
This meeting will be a dynamic exchange between the two initiatives covering a range of topics, such as long-term research, the role of social sciences for preparedness and response and recommendations on how to further engage with low- and middle-income countries.
Day 2: GloPID-R General Assembly: Are We Prepared?
The second day will be centered on GloPID-R and dedicated to the lessons learned from past infectious disease outbreaks and the current state of readiness and preparedness of the global community. Yazdan Yazdanpanah, Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale (INSERM), will provide the funders’ perspective, while Jean Lang, Sanofi Pasteur, will give the point of view from an industrial corporation.
The members will then dedicate the rest of the day to discuss key steps towards better preparedness and a more efficient response, long-term research goals, data sharing during public health emergencies, and strengthening operational capacities in-between epidemics, as well as other topics.
More information will be provided about the General Assembly’s results and new projects in the next few weeks.
