GloPID-R Research & Policy team have responded to several Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) outbreaks.
In 2023, a simultaneous outbreak occurred in both Equatorial Guinea and the United Republic of Tanzania. A technical briefing was shared with GloPID-R members in March 2023. This was followed by a joint meeting held convened with GloPID-R members and the World Health Organisation (WHO) R&D Blueprint team on the coordination of trials for MVD and other Pan-Filoviruses.
In 2024 and 2025, Pandemic PACT has responded to two outbreaks of MVD in Rwanda and Tanzania. Pandemic PACT has produced data visualizations for MVD research funding, including alignment to the outbreak-specific research priorities. To explore these visualizations and view regular outbreak updates for MVD in Tanzania, please visit Pandemic PACT’s outbreak page.
Pandemic PACT regularly publishes summary reports of the current outbreak and their additional reporting of the clinical trials landscape can be found here.
