GloPID-R Expands Its Activities to Strengthen Global Outbreak Preparedness
Building on the outcomes, decisions, and momentum generated during GloPID-R’s General Assembly, held on 27 – 28 October, 2025 in Paris, France, the GloPID-R network has expanded the scope of its activities to further strengthen coordination among funders, support strategic alignment, and contribute to accelerating effective global outbreak response.
Outbreak Response Activities
- Social Sciences Integration for Effective Outbreak Response
GloPID-R recognizes the critical role of engaging communities and stakeholders during the preparedness phase to enable effective outbreak responses. Social and behavioral sciences (SBS) are integral across both preparedness and response, informing research priorities and guiding decision-making. To strengthen the integration of SBS within our work, GloPID-R will convene a roundtable with funders and thematic experts to explore potential approaches
New Working Groups
- Funding Contraction Working Group
The ongoing contraction of global health funding for epidemic and pandemic-prone pathogens highlights the need for systematic assessment and monitoring of evolving funding gaps and priorities. The Funding Contraction Working Group will support coordination among GloPID-R members by supporting coordination on policy and practice, strengthening communication, and providing a structured forum for information exchange on funder policies and strategic approaches within a dynamic global health context, where greater communication amongst members may enable shared learning and action in relation to pandemic preparedness - Biosecurity Working Group
In response to increasing policy development and interest among funders, GloPID-R has established a Biosecurity Working Group. The Working Group aims to support funder-to-funder knowledge exchange, promote interoperability, and ensure that research and infrastructure funding align with safe and secure practices.
With these new initiatives, GloPID-R reinforces its role as a network for global coordination, knowledge sharing, and strategic dialogue among research funders, enhancing preparedness and response for future epidemic and pandemic threats.
