Joint Statement

The Joint Statement on Data-sharing in Public Health Emergencies developed by Wellcome Trust and endorsed by GloPID-R was published on January 31. Timely and transparent sharing of data in a public health emergency (PHE) is vital. In light of the threat presented by the COVID-19 outbreak, signatories to the 2016 Joint Statement on data sharing in public health emergencies were invited to reaffirm their commitment to ensure research findings of relevance are shared rapidly with WHO by signing the ‘Joint Statement on sharing research data and findings relevant to the novel coronavirus (nCoV) outbreak’. The number of signatories increased from 67 in 2016 to 117 today.

Global Forum

Global Forum

The GloPID-R–WHO Global Research and Innovation Forum took place at WHO Headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland on February 11-12. To accelerate the generation of critical scientific information and develop the medical products needed to control COVID-19, key knowledge gaps and research priorities must be identified. To this end, WHO and GloPID-R invited participants from the global scientific community, public health and regulatory bodies, member states, research funders and bioethical organizations to attend this forum.

Project Tracker

Project Tracker

The GloPID-R – UKCDR live Research Project Tracker was launched on April 3 to support a more effective and coherent global research response. This live database of funded research projects on COVID-19 provides an overview of funded research projects mapped against the priorities identified in the WHO Coordinated Global Research Roadmap. It will be regularly updated as new funding decisions are announced. The aim of the joint GloPID-R – UKCDR initiative is to help funders and researchers identify gaps and opportunities and inform future research investments or coordination needs.

Research Synergies

Research Synergies

GloPID-R convened global funders, researchers & stakeholders to virtual COVID-19 Research Synergies Meetings on the themes of Vaccines, Therapeutics, Understanding Transmission & Social Sciences. A panel discussion completed the series of meetings. Participants included GloPID-R members and the researchers funded by their COVID-19 rapid response calls, representatives from the WHO, and other major research and funding organisations alongside contributors from countries affected by second peaks, waves or high incidence.

These meetings provided a platform to promote and establish collaboration and synergies between researchers funded by GloPID-R members. This maximized the use of available resources, generating connections between ongoing research projects, creating opportunities to share information on progress, barriers and outstanding research gaps and facilitating the progress of a collective effort to end COVID-19.

COVID CIRCLE

COVID CIRCLE

COVID CIRCLE – COVID-19 Research Coordination and Learning is a partnership between UKCDR and GloPID-R and has been developed to harness activities such as the continual mapping and analysis of global COVID-19 funding through the COVID-19 Research Project Tracker. This will enable COVID CIRCLE to coordinate funding efforts, connect networks of researchers, and collate learnings to inform future epidemic and pandemic responses with a focus on lower-resource settings.
