GloPID-R Africa Hub organises a meeting in Cape Town, South Africa, to address progress and next steps in the development of this regional hub.

First of three Funder Roundtable Meetings convened by the Data Sharing Working Group to develop an implementation guide to support the GloPID-R Data Sharing Roadmap.

MARCH

Mpox outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo briefing for GloPID-R members, hosted by the GloPID-R Africa Hub and the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC). Supported by analysis and briefs from the GloPID-R Research & Policy Team.

Official launch of Pandemic PACT (the Pandemic Preparedness Analytical Capacity and Funding Tracking Programme) at a special event co-organised with the Pandemic Sciences Institute, University of Oxford.

EDCTP3 (the Global Health EDCTP3 Joint Undertaking) becomes a member of GloPID-R.

FEBRUARY

The New GloPID-R Executive Board is officially instated. By unanimous decision, Mongezi Mdhluli is appointed Chair by the other Board members.

THROUGHOUT 2023

Publications by GloPID-R’s Research & Policy team appeared in Open Research Europe, California Management Review, The Lancet, Wellcome Open Research, Open Research Africa, and BMJ Global Health.

NOVEMBER

The GloPID-R Research & Policy Team attend the first WHO Clinical Trials Forum, where Team leader Alice Norton is invited to present the GloPID-R Funders Living Roadmap for Clinical Trial Coordination.

OCTOBER

GloPID-R General Assembly 2023 held in São Paulo, Brazil, hosted by FAPESP, and official launch of the GloPID-R Living Roadmap for Clinical Trial Coordination.

SEPTEMBER

GloPID-R Coordinated Funding Roundtable (online) attended by GloPID-R members.

AUGUST

Launch of the GloPID-R Africa Hub in Cape Town, hosted by the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC).

‘Lessons Learnt from Developing and Applying Research Priorities during the COVID-19 Pandemic’ published by the Research Prioritization Sub-group of the LMICs Working Group.

MAY

Publication of the GloPID-R Funders Living Roadmap for Clinical Trial Coordination, accompanied by a Commentary in The Lancet.

MARCH

At the request of WHO, meeting convened with GloPID-R membership about the coordination of trials for Marburg virus and other pan-filoviruses, supported by a review and brief on Marburg Virus Disease in Equatorial Guinea, developed by the GloPID-R Research & Policy team.

Pandemic PACT Tool Development meeting organised by GloPID-R and UKCDR at Les Pensières Center for Global Health (Annecy, France).

JANUARY

Virtual dialogue online event hosted GloPID-R and UKCDR celebrates the achievements of COVID CIRCLE. Joint UKCDR and GloPID-R report on ‘Funding and undertaking research during the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic’.

Charité Center for Global Health takes over hosting the GloPID-R Secretariat thanks to the renewal of the grant funded by the EU’s Horizon Europe Research & Innovation programme.

The Mérieux Foundation (Lyon, France) concludes its participation in GloPID-R after hosting the GloPID-R Secretariat, 2015 - 2022.

The Research & Policy Team publishes findings in BMJ Global Health on urgent research gaps for the Sudan virus disease outbreak in Uganda.

After further consultations, a third meeting is held in Montréal and produces the GloPID-R Charter, developed collectively by participants

During a second meeting held Les Pensières, Annecy (France), GloPID-R is discussed with a wider range of participants including funding bodies, representatives of additional countries, and scientific experts.

February

In Brussels, a first meeting gathers international research funding organizations from the US, Canada, China, Australia, the UK, France and Sweden. The Global Research Collaboration for Infectious Disease Preparedness (GloPID-R) initiative is launched at that meeting.

2012

The Heads of International Research Funding Organizations (HIROs) discuss the creation of an initiative to facilitate international collaboration between funders for research preparedness and response to infectious disease outbreaks.
