Updates from our Working Groups

Clinical Trials Working Group

The GloPID-R Clinical Trials Working Group (formerly known as the Clinical Trial Networks and Funders Working Group) is working to drive adoption of the GloPID-R Living Roadmap for Clinical Trial Coordination. With the Roadmap as a framework, the group is supporting cross-funder policy development, by mapping policies and activities to evaluate and integrate best practices. Findings from this work will be released in a publication later this year.
The group also continues to work with the WHO to support its implementation of the WHA 75.8 resolution on strengthening the clinical trial ecosystem. Dr. Alice Norton and Prof. Yazdan Yazdanpanah, Working Group Co-Chairs along with Dr. John Amuasi, both attended the first WHO Clinical Trials Forum in Geneva in November. Here, Alice presented the Roadmap as an operational guide for funders to deliver on recommendations made in the resolution.

Data Sharing Working Group

The Data Sharing Working Group is delighted to announce that Dr. Duduzile Ndwandwe (SA MRC) will serve as a co-chair of the group, along with Dr. Alice Norton. Duduzile will take over from Dr. Jeremy Gleenan (CIHR), who chaired the group from 2020-2023. Under its new leadership, the working group is focused on the implementation of the Data Sharing in Public Health Emergencies Roadmap, released in 2019. The group is looking forward to hosting a series of roundtable discussions throughout 2024 for the GloPID-R membership to share best practices on implementation of the Roadmap’s recommendations. Learnings will be collated into an ‘implementation guide’ to act as a companion piece to the Roadmap, to be published in late 2024.
