GLOPID-R

The newly designed GloPID-R Roadmap for Data Sharing in Public Health Emergencies (PHEs) unveiled during the 2019 General Assembly

The GloPID-R Roadmap for Data Sharing in PHEs was presented at the side event on Data Sharing during the GloPID-R General Assembly in Tokyo on May 13, 2019. Gail Carson, GloPID-R Secretariat, gave an overview of the Data Sharing Working Group including the Roadmap. The Roadmap itself is the outcome of a series of studies including case studies, the funders’ survey and the report on a data sharing meeting hosted by Wellcome in December 2018.

Alice Norton, GloPID-R Secretariat Senior Adviser, presented the data sharing Roadmap strategic framework (which contains the high-level recommendations from the Roadmap). Currently, many efforts by GloPID-R funders on data sharing take place in isolation; one way forward is to enhance collaboration among funders. The five key recommendations for improving data sharing in PHEs by the grantees of GloPID-R research funders were presented and discussed during the side event:

Recommendation Priority
Improve funder policies Improve data sharing in PHEs by the grantees of GloPID-R research funders
Align tools and strengthen capacity
Build trust
Influence other stakeholders Improve data sharing in PHEs by all stakeholders
Strengthen systems Foster a culture and create an infrastructure where data sharing is an integral part of research

The Roadmap authors Alice Norton, Raul Pardinaz-Solis and Gail Carson would like to acknowledge all the individuals who contributed through the consultation process for this Roadmap.
