GLOPID-R

New Partnerships, Stakeholders & Working Groups

During the General Assembly, the GloPID-R members brought up a collaboration opportunity between GloPID-R and the Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance (JPIAMR).

JPIAMR coordinates national funding and supports collaborative action for filling knowledge gaps and unmet needs in the antimicrobial resistance research field. Line Matthiessen, GloPID-R Chair, and Marc Ouellette, GloPID-R Vice Chair, will discuss the issue with the JPIAMR Management Board at their next meeting in Canada on March 28-29, 2017.

Steven Hoffman and GloPID-R Vice Chair Marc Ouellette, both from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) presented on the proposal to create an International Network of Research Centres on Global Governance for Infectious Disease Preparedness. The proposed network would focus on generating and applying knowledge on global health security governance by supporting, connecting, and mobilizing researchers in this emerging field. To ensure effectiveness and global relevance, the proposed network requires the involvement of multiple countries and support by several funding agencies. The CIHR Institute of Population and Public Health (IPPH) and Institute of Infection and Immunity (III) are therefore currently reaching out to potential funding partners. For more information on this proposal, please contact Andrew Taylor at andrew.taylor@globalstrategylab.org

A new working group on Clinical Trial Networks was established. The working group will be moderated by the European Commission and will meet on a regular basis to identify areas of common interest. This initiative follows a session during the Zika workshop in Sao Paulo that brought together PREPARE, REDe, ISARIC, REACTing, APPRISE and the ZIKA consortia. GloPID-R Members agreed on the importance to reach out to industrial pharmaceutical corporations to increase the efficiency of the global response to outbreaks. In order to achieve this objective, they discussed the best way forward and decided to set up a specific industry stakeholder group in the coming months.
