First Findings from Zika Research Working Groups
The Global Research Collaboration for Infectious Disease Preparedness have published the first findings of their Zika working groups in the report, Ongoing and Upcoming Research on the Zika Virus. In response to the outbreak, GloPID-R members rapidly formed working groups to address issues related to aetiology, vaccines, diagnostics, and vector control.
This first report is based on teleconferences and written contributions from the participants of the working groups on aetiology, vaccines and diagnostics. Its aim is to map the Zika research landscape and funding activities of GloPID-R members, and thus enable the identification of funding gaps and opportunities for collaboration among the research teams funded by members. The vaccine working group provides a short overview of the Zika vaccine research landscape, highlighting important research gaps. It also covers vaccine development funding from GloPID-R members.
The aetiology working group report lists the current research projects and ongoing calls, while the report from the diagnostics working group maps the studies that are funded, spanning biomarker validation, epidemiological surveillance and the development of new tools.
The working group findings will be updated on a regular basis and findings from the vector control working group will be included.
