The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) declared a new worrying outbreak of Ebola in Bikoro in Equator Province on May 8, 2018. With suspected cases distributed in time and space, involvement of nomadic and migratory populations, illness suspected deaths in health-care workers and an epicenter connected to major urban centers, quick action was needed. Through GloPID-R, the Wellcome Trust and Department for International Development (DFID) immediately catalyzed emergency funding.
A year earlier, the Ministry of Health of the DRC also declared an Ebola outbreak on May 11, 2017, closely monitored by GloPID-R members.
Mobilization of the network is ongoing. More actions to come.
